Hi everyone. This is going to be an exciting year for the Technicians. I am very excited about our Topics for Technician Day CE’s. Everyone has almost had to report their CE’s to the State for their licensing. There was a lot of confusion as to reporting the CE’s from last year’s Technician Day. The CE’s from last year were just State Certified, so they were not reported to your NABP or CPE monitor. But this year we are having the CE’s ACPE Certified. So you will answer a questionnaire online and then be able to get your credits. But with the new ACPE requirement comes a fee. ACPE CE’s cost. Not only do they cost to get them certified, but they cost each person per CE hour. Last year on Tech Day I let everyone know that there would be a cost for the 2014 Tech Day.

The fee is $65 for current WSPA and SPA members and $110 for nonmembers. I have had good feedback from the Tech’s that I have spoken with in regards to these fees. That is only about $11 per CE, Which is good compared to some of them online cost that $25 per CE. You can join Spokane Pharmacy Association for $25 now so that when you register you will get the members price.

There is a Pharmacy Technician page on Facebook for Spokane/Coeur d’Alene area techs. Like our page and get updates on Tech Day. As well as it is a good forum to ask Techs questions and discuss any issues that we as techs may have. I will post on Facebook Pharmacy Technician how to register. Watch your email for registration information.

For new Technicians, every tech will need to get an NABP e-Profile ID #. My suggestion is to go online and register now. You MAY need the NABP e-profile # to register. The NABP e-profile ID number is free. You will need the NABP profile ID # to register for the CE, the State of WA made it mandatory to have the NABP profile # to access the CE credits through CPE monitor. To get your NABP e-profile ID # go to nabp.net  Once you get your NABP e-profile # you will go to the CPE Monitor to get your CE’s. You will access the CPE Monitor to get your CE’s. They link up together to access the CE credits. This is how CPE Monitor works.

There will be a limit on the # of Techs that can register for Tech Day, as there is a 70 seat capacity in the room at S.C.C. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask me.

Thanks,

I look forward to seeing all you at Tech Day.

Update to Members – August 2014

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE VP

Your Spokane Pharmacy Association Board traditionally takes a break from meeting during the summer months but lots of activity is going on behind the scenes.

The SPA Board of Managers met for their annual retreat in June to set goals and activities for the 2014-2015 membership year. We will be sharing progress with the membership as the year progresses.

One of our important goals for 2012 and 2013 was fulfilled this year–to finish funding the SPA-Marguerite Villars Scholarship fund:

SPA-MARGUERITE VILLARS SCHOLARSHIP

For many decades, the Spokane Pharmacy Association Board of Managers has annually set aside a portion of dues and donations to award an annual scholarship to a WSU pharmacy student. Unfortunately, tuition costs have continued to rise and Association expenses have increased as industry support for CE programs has been restricted.  With the help of the WSU College of Pharmacy, the SPA transferred the scholarship fund into an endowed scholarship named to honor Marguerite Villars, the long-time treasurer of the SPA.  The scholarship was kicked off at the 2011 SPA Banquet by Sue Merk and raised $12,000 of the $25,000 needed.

When Bill Fassett announced his retirement in 2014, he graciously offered to donate any funds raised in honor of his retirement to the scholarship fund.

The SPA is thrilled to announce that at Bill’s retirement celebration during the NW Pharmacy Convention in Coeur d’Alene on May 30, 2014 over $22,000 was raised during an auction and paddle raise to finish funding the scholarship!

A special thank-you needs to go to Linda Garrelts MacLean, Kelly Sylvester and Sue Lutz of the WSU Development & Alumni Relations office, John Oftebro of the WSPA Foundation who served as MC and the many attendees who donated and bid on the items, which included wine collections, golf clubs, gifts and fashion items, Coeur d’Alene lake tours and boat tours of Elliott Bay in Seattle.

The SPA Board of Managers voted at the board retreat in June to support the WSU College of Pharmacy in awarding a second scholarship in 2014 using the extra funds.  The second scholarship will be named to honor Bill and Sharon Fassett.  The SPA Board will be discussing plans for the future to support students both through scholarship support and other activities.

BILL & SHARON FASSETT RETIREMENT & ASSOCIATION CHANGES

As mentioned above, Bill Fassett retired from WSU this year and at the same time, resigned from his position as Executive VP of the SPA.  Sharon Fassett has served as the Webmaster and electronic communication coordinator for the SPA and she has also resigned from that position so that they can enjoy their free time.

Sue Marchi Kellogg agreed to step into the appointment as the Executive VP and Michael Ayres of CHAS is working on the website, contact information and email listings. Currently the website is under construction to update content. We appreciate the patience of all our members as we try to fill the large gap left by the Fassetts. Expect updates to come soon.

The Spokane Pharmacy Association extends their gratitude to the Fassetts for all of their contributions to the Association and wishes them great happiness and success in their well-deserved retirement.
