Keynote: Pharmacists as Direct Patient Care Providers
Presenter: Dr. Julie Akers
Julie Akers is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Spokane, WA. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Washington State University in 2000, after which she worked for 13 years in an ambulatory setting as a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Manager, District Manager and Director of Pharmacy. Dr. Akers currently serves on the Washington State Pharmacy Association Board of Directors and is a Past-President of the association. She is a member of a coordinating committee mandated by Washington State Governor Inslee in 2018, with the focus to eliminate Hepatitis C in WA State by 2030. She serves her local community on the Spokane Regional Opioid Task Force and is the faculty advisor for several student organizations. Her research focuses on increasing patient access to quality care through advancing community pharmacy practice, which includes a study related to community pharmacists screening patients for Hepatitis C.
