At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
– Describe the American College of Gastroenterology-Canadian Association of Gastroenterology’s Clinical Practice Guideline suggestions regarding management of anticoagulants and antiplatelets during acute GIB and peri-endoscopic period
– Describe the suggestions given in the statement from the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis regarding management of bleeding risk in patients who receive anticoagulants therapy for venous thromboembolism
– Recognize the effectiveness and safety of apixaban versus warfarin in venous thromboembolism patients with chronic kidney disease
– Describe the recommendations of peri-operative management of anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy when an elective invasive procedure is planned
– Recognize limitations in the literature and guidance statements for patients on antithrombotic therapy requiring a planned elective procedure.

The Washington State Pharmacy Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

To Earn CE Credit
To receive credit, you must be a SPA member and complete the evaluation as validation of attending. The evaluation as well as your NABP e-profile ID and birth date MMDD will need to be received by the WSPA in order for you to receive credit.

The Washington State Pharmacy Association only has 60 days from the date of the activity to upload the CPE information to the CPE Monitor. WSPA will upload the CE within 3-4 weeks after the event. It will be your responsibility to check the CPE Monitor before the 60 days to make sure the CE is uploaded in your profile. If there are any problems, you will need to contact WSPA at 425-228-7171. CE cannot be uploaded after the 60 days from the date of the event.

Did you make a New Year’s resolution?

Whether you made a resolution or not, it’s a great time to think about your Spokane Pharmacy Association membership. Although memberships run for 12 months, many of us may have January as our renewal month. Have you received a renewal notice lately? If so, why not take 2 minutes, renew right now, and know that you are all set for 2023. In addition to offering accredited CE programs and exciting social events, being a member provides a lower rate on our 2023 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet that’s coming up on Saturday, February 18th. You can find award nomination details, renew your membership, or purchase tickets to the banquet on our website.

We also want to welcome our 5 new board members: Connor Capdeville, Lee Roy Esposo, Bruce Langridge Jr., Alexa Powell, and Kayla Treharne.

And thank our outstanding outgoing board members: Alice Knotts, Alex Heyfetz, David Kim, Nicole Rodin, Sean Rourke, and John Griffith!

Without these incredible people, none of the wonderful things the Spokane Pharmacy Association provides would happen.

The Spokane Pharmacy Association is currently accepting nominations and applications for the Board of Managers for the next 2-3 year term starting January 2023.

We are seeking pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to fill our Board. The deadline to submit a nomination or application is Wednesday, November 16th at 5pm.

Message from the Board

What? Back to school sales? Where did summer go?

It can’t be time for school to begin again! (Unless you’re a parent anxious for your kids to get out of the house). Hopefully school will be near-normal this year after several years altered by COVID.

The Spokane Pharmacy Association is looking forward to a near-normal autumn. We have lots of plans, so make sure your membership doesn’t lapse!

First, we are planning a dinner CE “Teams Don’t Create Themselves, Change Starts With Me”, presented by Jill Coen, PharmD. We will combine this with a short annual business meeting. Watch your email and fax for information about this fall event.

We also will have another 1-2 CE events this year for pharmacists and techs, plus TECH Day is coming up on October 1st. Make sure your colleagues know about this great opportunity for Tech CE’s.

We’ve had several fun social events this year, but will have one more this fall. Trivia night is the most popular request so we will combine that with beer or wine tasting. Watch for details.

We are returning to a spring Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet in 2023 and have begun planning. Watch for a “save the date” once we have a solid date set.

These are just a few of the benefits of being a Spokane Pharmacy Association member. Why not invite a friend to be a member too and enjoy our events with your friends?
